Testing the video system on my Bixler v. 1.1. Wanted to get everything mounted to the plane and get some stick time to get an idea of how it handled. Every once in a while I glanced at the monitor, but it was such a weird feeling to not be looking at the plane. Here's whats being used:
On the plane:
Video Transmitter ~ 1.5w, 1.3GHz (1280) Gold "budget" from ReadyMadeRC
IBCrazy Cloverleaf Antenna
Flight Camera Mount ~ Hobby King Pan/Tilt Mount - Large w/ (2) 9g Servos
Flight Camera ~ Some POS the guy I bought my DVR from threw in for free.
HD Camera ~ HobbyKing WingCam 720p
Flight Battery ~ Turnigy 2200mAh 3S
Video Battery ~ E-Sky 900mAh 3S (Also thrown in with the DVR)
Foxtech 8ch 1.3GHZ receiver
IBCrazy 4 lobe SPW antenna
DVR ~ PV500
Monitor ~ Digital Prism 7" LCD (Takes a LOT of static, but DVR prevents blue screen)
Power Supply ~ Turnigy 1300mAh 3S
Radio ~ Spektrum DX6i (Set to Heli Mode with throttle and pitch curves to allow for pan and tilt of camera
Video signal seemed decent, but got some static when I was flying directly overhead. I think I am going to swap out the 1.5W Vtx for a 300 or 400mw Vtx. The 1.5w is SUPER heavy and is WAY overkill. Plus it drains the video battery pretty quick. The video battery was at 11.3v after a 15 minute flight.
Will be switching to a Turnigy 9X radio with Dragonlink soon. I've got everything but the DLrx antenna, which should be here in a day or so. I ordered both the IBCrazy dipole and turnstile. Also arriving in a day or two is a Cyclops Storm OSD. I'll have everything I need at that point for flights of several miles, but going beyond LOS is a scary thought. Also would like to switch to a RiteWing ZII.... I think it will carry the extra weight a lot better than the Bixler.
